Carina Matz began her love of dance at 6 years old with one ballet/tap combo class. She began to add new styles each year, including lyrical, jazz, Polynesian, hip hop, contemporary, modern, pointe, musical theater, acro jazz, afro modern, and Cecchetti.
She joined Dance Image when she was fifteen years old where she continued to train in the Cecchetti method and successfully passed her Grade 8 exam. She also joined the Dance Image Performing Group where she performed in many parades, shows, and competitions. Carina graduated from Mt. San Antonio College in 2020 with two Associates to transfer degrees in Psychology and Sociology, an Associate’s degree with a Social & Behavioral Sciences Emphasis, and an Introduction to Computer Technology certificate.
While attending Mt. SAC, she was part of the dance repertory, where she performed in several dance concerts, and competed in the Palm Desert Choreography Festival in the pre-professional division. Carina is currently enrolled at Arizona State University where she is pursuing her Master’s Degree in Psychology and is a member of Barrett, the Honors College. She hopes to apply her education and skills in a career in criminology or forensic psychology.
Her time at Dance Image has continued to foster her love of dance and she is excited to be able to be part of the Dance Image faculty as a part-time/substitute instructor. Carina loves teaching dance to all students and is happy that the new hybrid teaching methods have allowed her to continue to share her love of dance with others.
